Paws in the Park
The Pup Academy
We have a maximum of eight puppies/dogs in any class.
They run for 6 weeks and are one-hour sessions.
We believe obedience should be fun for both you and your dog, and with us, your puppies/dogs will learn through positive, fun and reward based training methods.
Puppy Playschool is a fun introduction aimed at puppies between two and six months of age.
Puppy training classes are very important to your young dog, They need to be taught how to socialise with other puppies, dogs and with strangers.
Play and socialisation is the main theme on this course. The pups will get lots of chances for “free play” with each other. But you will also get involved with recalls away from the other pups and lot of rewards. Your puppy will also learn how to deal with things like grooming and vet checks.
Things we cover include:
Stopping bad behaviours- How to stop your puppy biting you, and/or jumping up at you and your family, and or other people.
Toilet training- Teaching your puppy to toilet outside.
Crate Training. How to like and be happy in their crate.
Sitting- Teaching your puppy to sit and keep sitting until told to get up.
Lie Down-To lie down and stay lying.
Heeling- To walk nicely on a loose lead at the side of you.
Recall- To come back to you first call, when you take them out for a walk and let them off lead in the park etc.
Play – How to make play an enriching and pleasurable experience for you and your dog.
Examinations- How to get them used to being handled all over by you, your vet or groomer.
Grooming – How to let you groom them yourself, without them biting the brush etc.etc.
We have also found through the years that although ideally it is great for all members of the family to attend; it is not really necessary, so long as the attendee goes home and passes on what they have learnt and all persons carry out the “homework” with the puppy.
We are happy to accept puppies as soon as they have had their first vaccination.
Scrambles also make sure your puppy can go away with basic obedience and good manners. Jumping up and other anti-social behaviours can be dealt with before they are a problem and in a kind, positive way.
Make sure you always bring your puppy’s favourite toy and tons of yummy treats!
Some people also ask for a session before they get their puppy and we can do this either in person or on line so that you get it right from Day One.
Some people also prefer personal one to one training for their puppy and this can also be arranged as a four week course.
